On June 12, 2016, 49 people were shot and killed during a terrorist attack at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando. Pulse was hosting a "Latin Night," and most of the victims were Hispanic. It is the deadliest incident of violence against LGBTQ+ people in U.S. history and the deadliest terrorist attack in the U.S. since the September 11 attacks in 2001. At the time, it was the deadliest mass shooting by a single shooter in U.S. history, being surpassed by the Las Vegas shooting a year later.
Alan Alvarez and I co-won the 2nd place at the Florida Society of News Editors for the "News Photography" category for students in 2017 with our coverage of the attack aftermath.
